Jekoya was founded on a simple, stubborn belief: that the best furniture is built not for a season, but for a lifetime — and beyond. In an industry rushing toward disposability, we are deliberately slow. This is the story of why we do what we do.

Chapter I — The Origin

A workshop, not a factory.

Jekoya began with a quiet frustration. India has produced extraordinary furniture for centuries — temple woodwork, royal commissions, joinery so precise it survives monsoons and earthquakes intact. Yet today's market is flooded with particle board, veneer-over-MDF, and "designer" pieces that arrive looking expensive and begin failing within two years.

We started Jekoya to do the opposite. Solid Burma teak frames. Mortise-and-tenon joinery cut by hand. Italian leather. Brass finished in Moradabad by craftsmen whose families have done this for generations. No shortcuts, no compromises, no warehouse — every piece is made when it is ordered, by a small team that owns the work from beginning to end.

It takes longer. It costs more. And it produces furniture that becomes part of the family — the kind of piece that gets passed down, not thrown out.

Chapter II — What We Believe

Four convictions that shape every piece.

These aren't marketing lines. They are the actual rules we work to — the standards every piece is measured against before it leaves our workshop.

Solid wood, always.

No MDF. No particle board. No veneer over engineered substrate. Every Jekoya piece uses solid hardwood — primarily kiln-dried Burma teak. You should be able to refinish, repair, and restore the furniture decades from now. That is impossible with manufactured wood.

II.

Joinery is visible.

Open any Jekoya drawer and you see the dovetails. Look under any tabletop and you see the apron joined with mortise-and-tenon. Construction is meant to be admired up close, not hidden behind a finish. We hide nothing because there is nothing to hide.

III.

Made to order, not held in stock.

We do not maintain warehouse inventory. Each piece is built specifically for its room — your dimensions, your finish, your fabric, your home. This means longer lead times. It also means no compromise, no surplus, and no warehouse cost passed to you.

IV.

Honesty over hype.

We tell you exactly how long it will take. We show you the actual wood we will use. We provide material certificates on request. We charge a premium that reflects real cost, not marketing budget. The furniture should speak for itself; we try to stay out of its way.

Chapter III — The Workshop

We are not a brand. We are a workshop.

Jekoya is not a label put on top of factory production. It is a small workshop of designers, joiners, upholsterers, and finishers who own each piece from first sketch to final delivery. The person who cuts your dovetails is the person who signs off on your finish.

There is no anonymous assembly line. There is no outsourced labour we have never met. We work slowly on purpose, in small batches, because that is the only way to build furniture that will still be in the family in fifty years.

Chapter IV — The Workshop

How a Jekoya piece is actually made.

Each piece passes through the same four stages, handled by the same small team. We do not run an assembly line. The person who starts your piece is the person who finishes it.

Material Selection

Burma teak is selected plank by plank, matched for grain. Leather is imported from named Tuscan tanneries. Brass is sourced from Moradabad workshops we've worked with for years. We photograph the materials we'll use and send them to you for approval.

II.

Cutting & Joinery

Mortise-and-tenon, dovetail, hand-pegged where appropriate. No staples in load-bearing positions. Joinery cured before assembly. Each frame inspected and signed off before upholstery or finishing begins.

III.

Finishing

Hand-rubbed oils and waxes — never spray lacquer. The wood develops a depth and richness that catalyzed finishes simply cannot replicate. Brass hardware hand-finished separately. Leather hand-stitched by upholsterers, not staple-gunned.

IV.

White-Glove Delivery

Crated, transported, and assembled in your home by our team. We handle society approvals, lift bookings, and on-site installation. You do nothing but open the door. A care kit is provided with every delivery.

Chapter V — Questions

Questions, answered.

What does "Jekoya" mean? +

Jekoya is a name we chose for its sound and its associations — quiet, considered, distinct. It does not translate to a specific word. It is a name we hope our furniture earns the meaning of.

Where is the workshop located? +

Our workshop is in India. We do not currently host public visits, but for serious project commissions (typically above five pieces or hospitality scale), we welcome architects and designers for a workshop tour by appointment.

How is Jekoya different from other Indian furniture brands? +

Three structural differences: (1) we only use solid wood — no MDF, no particle board, no veneer over engineered substrate; (2) we use traditional hand joinery, not just staples and screws; (3) we are made-to-order, not warehouse-stocked, which means no compromise on dimension or specification. The result is furniture that costs more upfront but lasts ten times longer.

Do you ship internationally? +

Yes, for select markets — currently UK, UAE, Singapore, and East Africa, primarily for project-scale orders. International freight and customs are quoted per project. Lead time adds 3–6 weeks beyond standard production.

How can I see the pieces before ordering? +

We courier physical material samples (wood swatches, fabric swatches, brass finish samples, leather samples) to your address before you commit to an order. For larger commissions, we arrange in-person consultations in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, and Bangalore. Smaller pieces are typically briefed entirely over WhatsApp with room photos and dimensions, which works well for most clients.
